Cookies Policy

What happens when you visit this website

What is an IP Address?

Every time you connect to the internet you are assigned a unique Internet Protocol Address (”IP Address”).  IP Addresses form part of the Transmission Control Protocol (“TCP”) which defines how electronic devices communicate with each other and allows your electronic device to communicate with websites and networks.

An IP Address is responsible for addressing, delivering and routing your online requests precisely and attaches an “electronic return address” to all your online requests and activity.

Each time you disconnect and reconnect to the internet you are automatically assigned a new unique IP address and therefore IP addresses are not inherently capable of identifying you as an individual.

The IP address will contain information pertaining to the location of your electronic device and your internet service provider (ISP Provider).

What are Cookies and why do we place them on your computer?

During the course of your visit to our website, your web browser will automatically download on to your electronic device a copy of the webpages and photographs which you view.

For a website to work properly, it needs to collect certain basic information on users and Cookies are small text only files which are stored in the Cookies folder in the hard drive on your electronic device.

Cookies allow the website to remember important information that will make your use of our website more convenient. A Cookie will typically contain the name of the domain from which the Cookie has come, the life time of the Cookie and a random generated unique number or other value. Like most websites, we use cookies for a number of purposes, namely, to improve your online experience and for analytic purposes.

What Types of Cookie are there?

There are four initial types of Cookies:-

  • Strictly necessary Cookies are essential to navigate around a website and use its features, without them a user would be unable to use basic services.
  • Performance Cookies collect anonymous aggregated data on how visitors use a website and are only used to improve how a website works.
  • Functionality Cookies enable the user to customise how a website looks for them and remembers choices that the website user has made and allows more enhanced and personal features.
  • Advertising and Targeting Cookies are used to deliver advertisements which are relevant to you, but can also limit the number of times you see an advertisement. They  can also be used to chart the effectiveness of an ad campaign by tracing users’ clicks. They are usually placed by third party advertising networks with a website operator’s permission, but can be placed by the operator themselves. They can remember that you have visited a website and this information can be shared with other organisations including other      advertisers.

Additionally, these Cookies break down into two further sub-types;

  • Persistent Cookies remain on a user’s device for a set period of time specified in the Cookie. They are activated  each time that the user visits the website that created that particular Cookie.
  • Session Cookies are temporary.  They allow website operators to link the actions of a user during a browser session. This starts when a user opens the browser window and      finishes when they close the browser window. Once the website user closes the browser all session Cookies are deleted.

What information do we collect from Cookies?

Our Website uses a “Functionality Cookie” named ScorchDigitalCookie and is used so that you do not have to agree to the privacy policy each time you visit the website after initial acceptance. This Cookie holds no personal data.
